Young footballers head for Wembley
Posted: 25th November 2019Successful school footballers were rewarded for their efforts with a trip to Wembley.
A team of 80 Year 7 to 13 students from Epping St John’s Church of England School were taken to the home of football to watch an England match.
They watched their country win 7-0 against Montenegro in their 1,000th international fixture, earning them a place in Euro 2020.
Tom McGarr, subject leader of PE, said: “The students involved in the sports teams at Epping St John’s have really started to excel over the past couple of years, but especially within football.
“As a reward to our footballers – some of whom made the last 32 in the country and came runners up in the EFL cup - the PE department wanted to provide a really good trip.
“It was a great evening and showed students what can be achieved through hard work. It also showed them the professional game of football at the highest level, with an international fixture. We hope to make this a regular trip each year as it was a great experience for students to witness England play at the home of football at Wembley.”
