What is Applied Science all about?
This course offers students the chance to further their studies of science that takes a different approach from the traditional A-level route. Our Applied Science course is aimed at students who are interested in Biology, Chemistry and Physics at a greater depth of study.
This course includes a range of practical laboratory experience and academic study. To assist students in their studies and understanding of Science in the wider world, this course includes talks from industry professionals and visits to places of scientific interest and industry.
Compulsory Units :
• Human anatomy, physiology and pathology
• Health issues and scientific reporting
• Practical microbiology and infectious diseases
Optional Units (we will choose one):
• Diseases, disorders, treatments and therapies
• Biomedical science
• Human reproduction and fertility.
Assessment Criteria
External Units:
• Principles and Applications of Science
• Written exam
• Science Investigation Skills
• Practical and a written exam
Internal Units:
Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques One optional unit.
Future careers linked to this subject:
Upon completion of this course you will be able to apply to universities for a range of Science based degrees.
Students from this course have progressed onto degrees in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Forensic Science, Psychology, Criminology, Criminal Psychology, Forensic Anthropology, Criminal Investigations.
Entry Requirements
Two science GCSEs at Grade 5 . Grade 5 in both English and Maths is expected.
