What is Business is all about?
Students will gain a broad understanding of business functions and activities. They will have a good understanding of business finance and the work of businesses, both national and multi national.
Course Content
First Year Course Content
Theme 1: Marketing and People
In this unit students will look at markets, explore marketing and people functions and investigate business start up.
“Marketing” will examine market research, branding, supply and demand and pricing strategies. “People” will look at recruitment, selection, motivation and leadership.
Theme 2: Managing Business Activity
In this unit students will explore business finance and operations.
Finance will include sources of finance, cash flow, break even and budgeting. as well as looking at how to measure financial performance.
Second Year Course Content
Theme 3: Business Decisions and strategy
Students will look at business strategies, growth, decision making techniques (Investment appraisal, critical path analysis and decision trees) and what influences business decisions. This will include measuring financial performance.
Theme 4: Global Business
In this unit students will look at globalisation and international trade and how businesses expand into foreign markets. This unit also includes international marketing and the study of multi national companies.
Assessment:
- A Level Business is assessed by 3 written examinations which cover themes 1 to 4.
- Each paper is 2 hours and includes a mix of short and longer answer questions.
